Recipe Details

I love this recipe for Breakfast Sandwiches when I need to prep breakfasts for the week. Since the ingredients can be changed easily, this meal always stays fresh.

  • TASTE: Buttery eggs, savory meat, and mild cheddar cheese make these Breakfast Sandwiches delectable.
  • TEXTURE: This meal is full of melted cheese, crisp meat, and fluffy eggs. Every bite is full of deliciousness.
  • TIME: This dish takes 40 minutes to make.
  • EASE: You can’t find an easier or more simple breakfast recipe. It uses basic ingredients, is easy to make for a crowd, and is freezer-friendly.

What You’ll Need

Ingredients for Breakfast Sandwich (3 ways): cheddar cheese, sausage patties, Canadian bacon, bacon, eggs, salt, pepper, half & half, butter, and English muffins.

Ingredient Notes

  • English muffins- These act as the bread in this sandwich. You can use fresh or frozen (and thawed), or gluten-free.
  • Meats- I used bacon, Canadian bacon, and sausage patties for mine.
  • Cheese- Cheddar cheese slices work great here as they melt well and are just the right size.
  • Eggs- These are scrambled them cooked flat for the perfect size to fit the English muffin.
  • Half & Half- This adds a creamy element to the eggs.
  • Butter- The eggs and English muffin take on a tasty buttery flavor when cooked with this.
  • Seasonings- Salt and Black pepper is all you need.

Add-ins and Substitutions

  • Use different meats- You can tweak this recipe with any meat you like, including bacon, ham, sausage patties, deli meat, Canadian bacon, Spam, or chicken.
  • Add sauce- Add extra flavor with some hot sauce, ketchup, Copycat Chick-Fil-A Sauce, or Sriracha.
  • Substitute breads- You can also make this with bagels, Buttermilk Biscuits, slices of Sourdough Bread, Brioche Buns, or make it into a Croissant Breakfast Sandwich.
  • Add sweetness- Try this Breakfast Sandwich recipe with maple syrup or honey. The sweetness is a flavorful contrast to the saltiness of the meat.

How to Make a Breakfast Sandwich

  • Combine the egg mixture. In a large bowl, add the eggs, half & half, salt, and pepper. Use a whisk to thoroughly combine.
  • Bake it. Butter the bottom and sides of a 9 x 13“ baking dish with melted butter and preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for about 18 minutes, or until the eggs are fully cooked.
  • Cut them out. Cut out the eggs in 3-inch circles. I used this biscuit cutter.

Pro Tip: When spreading the melted butter, use a pastry brush. It makes it so much easier.

Steps to make Breakfast Sandwich (3 ways): whisk the eggs, half & half, salt, and pepper in a bowl and bake it in a pan with butter, then cut out circles.
  • Prep the English muffins. In the meantime, slice 6 English muffins in half, then place them on a rimmed baking sheet, cut side up. Brush melted butter on top of them. Then broil them for about 2-3 minutes, or until lightly golden and toasted.
Steps to make Breakfast Sandwich (3 ways): butter the halves of the English muffins and bake them.
  • Assemble. Lay the bottom half of the English muffins down, then place one slice of cheddar cheese on top, then your choice of meat, and finally the top slice of the English muffin.
  • Melt the cheese. Warm the sandwiches in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5-8 minutes to melt the cheese. Or you can just microwave however many you want to enjoy.
Steps to make Breakfast Sandwich (3 ways): assemble the sandwiches with English muffin, eggs, cheese, and meat on a pan.

Recipe Tips

  • Butter the egg pan- This step is important for keeping the egg from sticking to the pan and not coming out smoothly. It also adds great buttery flavor to this Breakfast Sandwich recipe.
  • Cut out the eggs with a cookie cutter- Use a 3-inch round cookie cutter to cut out the eggs. This is so much easier and the circles are perfect for the size of the bread.
  • Watch the English muffins as they broil- These can easily burn, so keep a close eye on them so they only become a golden brown.
  • Use sliced cheese- Sliced cheese or slices cut from a block will melt better than shredded cheese.
