    1. Maki

    Maki is a type of sushi that consists of raw fish or vegetables rolled inside seaweed and rice. Maki can be made with filling, such as avocado, cucumber and crab sticks.

    Nigiri is another type of sushi that consists of a slice of raw fish or cooked eel or shrimp on top of a rectangular mound of rice. 

    3. Sashimi

    4. Temaki

    Temaki is similar to maki, except it is not rolled using a bamboo mat but instead rolled into a cone shape before being eaten. It’s rolled by hand, thus the “te” in the beginning, and is filled with rice, vegetables, and seafood.

    5. Inari Sushi

    Inari sushi is another type of sushi where the main ingredient is tofu rather than raw fish! Simply wrap cooked sushi rice in fried tofu pouches (they look like little bags). If you want, you can add some other ingredients such as carrots or cucumber before serving your sushi.

    1. Salmon and Avocado Sushi

    Salmon and Avocado Sushi is a combination of the best ingredients! Golden brown roasted salmon and creamy avocado are mixed with a little wasabi and wrapped with sushi rice in a seaweed wrap to create a meal that’s cool, creamy and full of delicious flavors. 

    This sushi is perfect for lunch, dinner or a light snack. Serve these finger-licking rolls with soy sauce, and your guests are surely going for seconds and even thirds. The ingredients are carefully selected to provide a healthy and nutritious meal. It is excellent for any time of the day and the perfect meal for family or friends. Let’s prepare this finger-licking sushi.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups Sushi Rice
    • 6 Seaweed sheets
    • 1 ½ Tbsp Whole egg mayonnaise
    • ½ tsp Wasabi
    • 300g Sashimi grade salmon, slice into 6 thick strips 
    • 1 Avocado, peeled and sliced
    • 1/2 tsp Soy Sauce to serve

    Instructions

    1. Cook sushi rice in a rice cooker.
    2. Place a seaweed sheet (shiny side down) on the sushi mat.
    3. Spread rice over the seaweed sheet, leaving a 3 cm wide border along the top edge.
    4. Take a bowl to mix mayonnaise and wasabi. Spread a little wasabi mayonnaise along the center of the rice. Place one salmon strip over it and then top with sliced avocado. Pick up the edge of the bamboo mat and start rolling over to enclose rice and fill in the seaweed.
    5. Repeat with the remaining nori sheets, rice and filling to make 5 more rolls.
    6. Cut sushi rolls into 2-3cm thick slices. Serve on a platter and serve with soy sauce. 

    2. California Sushi Rolls

    California Sushi Rolls are inside-out sushi rolls where vinegared rice makes the outside of the sushi roll. The most common ingredients used in this sushi are nori (seaweed), sushi rice, avocado, fresh crab meat or crab stick, black Japanese sesame seeds, and Cucumber. 

    They are easy to make and considered a great food item to make in the comfort of your own home. A California roll is usually served with wasabi, soy sauce or other dipping sauces. 

    Ingredients

    Sushi Rice

    • 2 cups sushi rice
    • 2 cups water
    • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt

    For Sushi Rolls

    • 8 nori sheets
    • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
    • 3 ounces imitation crabmeat sticks
    • 1 medium  avocado, peeled and thinly sliced 
    • 2 Tbsp. sesame seeds
    • 2 Tbsp. black sesame seeds or Tobiko (Japanese caviar)
    • Bamboo sushi mat

    Instructions

    1. Put rice in a large saucepan with water; keep aside for 30 minutes. Cook over medium-high heat and reduce to low when the water starts to boil. Cook the rice on low for 15-20 minutes or until water is absorbed and the rice turned tender. Once done, remove from the heat. Set aside for 10 minutes.
    2. Meanwhile, combine the vinegar, sugar and salt in a small bowl, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
    3. Add rice to a large bowl and mix in the vinegar. Place a damp cloth over the rice to keep it moist. (The rice mixture may be made up to two hours in advance. Cover rice with a wet kitchen towel. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated)
    4. Spread the black and toasted sesame seeds on a plate and set them aside. Place sushi lined with a plastic wrap mat on a work surface. Spread rice evenly on the mat using fingers. Top with 1 nori sheet.
    5. On the bottom half of the seaweed sheet, place cucumber, crab, and avocado about 1-1/2 in. Roll up the rice using the bamboo mat and compress the filling while rolling, applying even pressure while moving forward on mat. 
    6. Remove the mat, then put the roll on a plate with sesame seeds. Repeat to make more rolls. Use this knife for cutting sushi roll into 8 pieces. Serve with soy sauce. Enjoy!
    Rainbow-Sushi

    3. Rainbow Sushi

    Sushi rolls are a delicious, healthy alternative to fast food. These rainbow sushi rolls are easy to make and a fun sushi idea for a party. The Rainbow Sushi Roll is a mouthwatering combination of Cucumber, avocado and crab topped with avocado, salmon and tuna and sometimes tropical fruits like Mango. 

    Ingredients

    For The Sushi Rice

    • 1 cup sushi rice
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 ½ Tbsp. optional sushi vinegar (or mix 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon sugar)

    For The Sushi Roll

    • 2 seaweed sheets
    • 3/4 lb. imitation crab
    • 1/2 avocado
    • 1 piece of Cucumber sliced lengthwise(optional)

    For The Rainbow Topping

    • 1/2 ripe avocado 
    • 1 oz sashimi grade tuna filet
    • 1 oz sashimi grade salmon filet

    Instructions

    1. Cook rice in the rice cooker with rinsed rice and water. Once the rice is cooked, cool it down slightly by transferring it to a different bowl.
    2. When the rice is still warm, stir in the sushi vinegar (or the mixture of rice vinegar and sugar).
    3. Make sushi rolls.
    4. Place the plastic-wrapped bamboo mat on a work surface.
    5. Then cut the nori sheet into two pieces using scissors.
    6. Lay nori sheet on top of the bamboo mat, with the shiny side facing down.
    7. Spread cooked rice evenly over the nori sheet with your hands. 
    8. Turn everything upside-down, so the rice is on the bottom.
    9. Slice long strips of avocado.
    10. Layer strips of imitation crab and avocado on top. (Don’t overfill; otherwise, it won’t seal properly.)
    11. Start rolling away from the mat and press down with your hands to make a tight roll. 
    12. Remove the wrap, and set the roll somewhere aside.
    13. Arrange salmon, tuna, and avocado slices over the top of sushi rolls.
    14. Serve up with soy, wasabi, and pickled Japanese ginger slices. Enjoy.
    Philadelphia-Sushi-Roll-

    4. Philadelphia Sushi Roll

    The Philadelphia roll (sometimes referred to as the Philly roll) is the American version of Japanese Maki Sushi, though not the same since it is more Westernized. It’s a fusion of traditional raw fish sushi and a delicious American cheese spread, cream cheese. 

    The Philadelphia roll is a sushi roll that is filled with rice, cream cheese and smoked salmon. While the traditional Philadelphia roll contains smoked salmon, it also can be filled with other ingredients such as Cucumber and avocado. 

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Sushi Rice (cooked)
    • 1 sheet Nori Seaweed 
    • 1 Tbsp. Cream Cheese
    • 1 fillet Salmon 
    • ½ piece Avocado (thin slices)
    • ⅓ piece Cucumber (cut lengthwise)

    Instructions

    1. Take a sushi mat and place the nori seaweed on it. Make sure you use a sushi mat wrapped in a plastic sheet to prevent the sushi from sticking.
    2. Spread cooked rice over nori seaweed in an even layer (keep 2-3 Tablespoons of rice aside). Stick rice to nori using your fingers.
    3. Flip the rice-covered seaweed so that your nori will be facing up. Cover one-half of your seaweed with the 2-3 tablespoons of rice, keeping about 1 inch or 2 centimeters distance from the bottom end.
    4. Spread cream cheese in the center of the rice.
    5. Place cucumber slices over cream cheese, then arrange 3 avocado slices on top.
    6. Take the seaweed with the toppings to the border of your plastic-wrapped mat, use your hands to hold the bamboo mat, start rolling sushi, and press down with your hands to make the tightest roll possible.
    7. Make the topping by neatly arranging salmon slices on top of the sushi
    8. Arrange thinly sliced salmon over the sushi roll.
    9. Press down with another sushi mat to mold the roll so that the salmon sticks to the sushi.
    10. Remove the bamboo mat carefully and cut the sushi into 1 inch or 2-centimeter-thick slices.
    11. Serve Philadelphia roll with soya sauce or your favorite dip and some sliced pickled ginger.

    5. Healthy Vegetarian Sushi with Kale and Avocado

    4. Use a sushi mat while rolling the sushi.
