How To Make Mini Gingerbread Houses At Home
Gingerbread has always been associated with Christmas. That’s why you never find it all year round. Gingerbread is wholly solely for the Winter holidays. Not only that, but it’s also very versatile. You can make gingerbread men, gingersnaps, and my favorite, mini gingerbread houses.
The story behind gingerbread houses is also very interesting. You remember the fairytale (more like a witch tale) of Hansel and Gretel. Well, the kids went into a house made of candy, right? This intrigued people into making something similar. Many believe that’s how they first started making mini gingerbread houses. They are delicious, they are fun, and they are super cute (I am sorry. I have a thing for miniatures).
The recipe for mini gingerbread houses isn’t complicated, but all you need is a tad bit of architect’s flair. Steps To Make Mini Gingerbread Houses
1. Here Flour, There Flour, Everywhere Flour Flour
Take a food processor and add half of the flour and all of the butter to it. Blend them together and make sure there are no lumps.
Add the remaining flour with mixed spices, ground ginger, and baking soda to a bowl and mix. Put the flour and butter mixture from the food processor and brown sugar into this bowl and mix again.
Then, take a medium bowl and whisk eggs and golden syrup in it. Add them to the flour mixture as well. Mix everything and knead the mixture using your hands into a smooth dough.
2. Shaping The Gingerbread
Keep your oven preheated to 200℃. Then, divide the dough into four parts. Roll one part of the dough at a time on parchment paper to a thickness of about 5mm. Trim the edges and then cut small pieces from it to make the gingerbread house. Cut the dough to make 4 walls and 2 big parts for the roof.
Place the parchment paper on the baking tray and bake them for about 8-10 minutes until they have a rich brown color. Your prep for making the gingerbread house is ready. Now, it’s time to assemble your tiny houses.
3. An Architect’s Flair
Then, take them and cut little windows and doors in the wall pieces of bread. Now, take the icing sugar and mix it with some water until you have thick and stiff icing. Add this to a piping bag.
Arrange the walls in a way they make a square room and glue the walls on edge with the icing. Then, wait until they are set and add more icing if needed. After that, arrange the pieces of bread for the roof and use the regal icing balls to set them. Shape the balls into long cylinders and place them on top of the edges and hold them until set.
Decorate the houses with the remaining icing, sugar, and sprinkles. Your mini gingerbread houses are ready!
