- Preheat your oven up to 425oF. Place the rack at the center of it.
- Pour shortening in a 9-10 inch skillet and place it in the oven.
- In a large mixing bowl, add cornmeal, flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Mix them well. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and shortening.
- Now, combine both the mixtures and blend them until mixed completely.
- Take your pan out of the oven and pour this batter in it carefully.
