Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

  • In a large skillet, brown the sausage and beef over medium heat, breaking up the meat as it cooks.

  • Once the meat is cooked, discard the excess grease and return the meat to the skillet. Add the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, and garlic, and cook for 3-5 minutes over medium heat, stirring regularly. Mix in 1 cup of mozzarella and 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese until melted and well combined. Then, remove from heat.

  • For the ricotta topping, blend ricotta cheese, parsley, 1/4 cup parmesan, salt, and pepper in a separate bowl until smooth.

  • Spread the meat mixture evenly in the skillet and top it with the ricotta mixture. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese over the top. Place the skillet in the oven and bake at 425˚F for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the dish is heated through. Optionally, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for a golden brown cheese crust.

  • Remove from the oven, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve over pasta or sautéed spinach. Enjoy your meal!
